When you think it is a good time to buy a cell phone, there are many things to think over before rushing into a purchase. Remember to think about what type of phone you want, the company you want to deal with and of course the type of cell phone plan that would be best for you.  When it comes to the type of cell phone and the cell phone plan, it is typically required for you to buy them from the same dealer.  Most dealers will not give you a break on phone deals unless you sign up with them as well. Keep this in mind when thinking about purchasing a phone online.  Once you have picked your wireless dealer and the phone you want, it's now the time to pick your plan.

You cellular phone plan must be something that fits your budget and that will fit your needs.  If you plan on using your cell phone many times during the day, you need to pick a plan with the most peak minutes.  Peak minutes used for airtime during daylight hours.  Typically these hours range from 7am-9pm.  Once you have gone over these minutes during those main peak hours, you start to pay for each minute and it will cost you a lot of money. 

If you are only looking for a plan for emergencies, then you only need a basic plan that has a small amount of peak minutes.  Some people use their cell phone when they need to make long distant phone calls.  In this case, you need to get a cellular phone plan that includes long distance or in other terms nationwide calling.

You should not buy a cellular phone plan that has a bunch of features included that you will never use. Most cell phone plans include text messaging, picture albums or even emailing capabilities due to the technology of cell phones today.  If your phone does not have the capabilities of doing these tasks, there is no need to pay for this in your plan.  If you do not plan on text messaging on your phone, then do not pay for a cellular phone plan with text messaging.

Now there are two different types of cell phone plans.  You may need a plan for an individual or you may need a family plan.  Family plans are important if you want to keep in contact with everyone in your family.  These are becoming increasingly popular with families with young adults or teenagers.  This enables college students to stay in touch with their parents or allow them to contact help in cases of emergency.  Family plans will typically share all the minutes on the plan and each call will pull from the bucket of minutes that are being used.

As for the individual plan, make sure that your plan has everything that you think you will need. It depends on what your cell phone will be primarily used for, such as personal or business.

Whenever you decide to buy a cellular phone, pick a phone and plan that will work for you different needs.  Always research the different types of phones and services available to you in your area.
